City Sprouts has told more than 50 tenants at Punggol East Container Park to stop operations by 31 October 2026 and hand the units back the same day. The Singapore Land Authority holds the state land at 50 Punggol East Road. The lease runs to 31 December 2026 and will not be extended. SLA told CNA and The Straits Times the plot is needed for future residential redevelopment. If you still want an outdoor dinner here, the window is weeks, not months.
What SLA and City Sprouts actually said
SLA tenanted the site to City Sprouts from 1 October 2022. An SLA spokesperson said City Sprouts must vacate and return the land by 31 December 2026. City Sprouts told CNA it received an official notice in May to reinstate the site on that timeline. A 4 August email to tenants, seen by CNA, set the F&B stop date at 31 October so reinstatement can finish before year end.
Time Out Singapore, writing on 2 September, reported a staged farewell. Tara Na! by Easy Eatz SG and The Smok Hous Barbecue said they will serve until 1 November. ChickyFish said it will wrap up at the end of October. Those dates sit on top of the City Sprouts 31 October handover, so treat the last weekend of October as the safe last visit unless a stall posts a later hour on the day.
City Sprouts has run urban farms here since mid-2023. It also sits as a tenant. The social enterprise said it knew the site was never long-term, and that the final notice was still hard. It has a new greenhouse space at Pasir Ris Park and other sites at Henderson, West Coast, and Bedok. Farmers from Punggol were offered first dibs. The main F&B operator was pointed at other City Sprouts locations in the east. Housing is not a rumour. It is the reason the tenancy cannot roll.
Who is still cooking, and what to order
The cluster never looked like a mall food court. Shipping containers, fairy lights, and open air along Punggol East made it a supper stop after the park connector or the nearby driving range. Regulars told ST they treated it as a second home. On 1 September, a weekday, CNA and ST both found the tables full. People were eating now because they had read the closure posts.
Tara Na! by Easy Eatz SG is the newest F&B name. Nurnisa Jonson and her husband moved a six-year Punggol home kitchen into the park in May 2026. They signed through December, then learned on 11 August they had to leave by end-October. CNA reported 12 staff, half of them foreign workers. She has since signed a new spot at 60 Punggol East, at Punggol Golf Driving Range, one junction away. She told ST she still wants to cook at the container park until the last day. The draw is halal Filipino food in a setting with birds, bees, and no air-con. Some customers come from Johor. If you have been following the home-based years, this is the last chance to eat it in the containers.
The Smok Hous Barbecue is halal smoked meat. Founder Isrudy Shaik, also called Rudy, opened here in November 2025 after moving the brand around Singapore. He wanted a three-year lease. He was told the land might go back to the state. He has nine full-time staff and another shop at Telok Ayer that cannot absorb all of them. The smoker needs outdoor space and a crane to move. After the closure videos spread, ST said the last weekend of August sold out. Go for the smoked plates, not a quiet table.
ChickyFish is the old hand. Alvin Chua has been on site since 2016 and helped shape the container look. ST quoted him saying footfall never fully returned after the pandemic, and that he will miss the people more than the boxes. He worked through Chinese New Year for regulars. Kim Kao Mai Thai, selling Thai, Chinese, and Vietnamese food, has been here nine years. Co-founder Vincent Low told CNA about 90 percent of his customers live in the northeast. A west-side restart would mean building trust again.
Pickleball, climbing, and the last outdoor night
Play! Pickle, Ark Bloc, 24/7 Hai Bin Prawning, Kwontum Taekwondo, and Punggol Billiard are also leaving. Play! Pickle founder Darren Teo opened the Punggol branch in December 2024 with a tenancy to 10 December 2026. He has six double indoor courts, one singles indoor court, and an outdoor court. That made it the brand's largest site. City Sprouts emailed in August to stop by 31 October. Staff will shift for now to Serangoon and Chai Chee. Ark Bloc, the outdoor climbing and strength gym at 6 Tebing Lane since May 2022, has a lease into December and no confirmed last day yet. Co-founders Jeremy Ko and Chen Yanheng told ST they always knew the URA plans pointed to housing.
Punggol MRT on the North East Line is the nearest station. From there it is a bus or a long walk along Punggol East. Parking on site has always been informal. Bring cash and cards. Hours vary by stall. Many kitchens run into the evening, which is when the place feels like itself. City Sprouts is not the villain in this story. SLA is following a master plan. The food is still on the grill until late October. After that, Punggol's outdoor supper strip becomes a housing site, and the next plate is somewhere else.
